In Charente Maritime, there is a course on the Ile de Ré and another near Royan. In Vienne, there is a course near Poitiers at St Cyr, and in the Charente there is a course near Angoulême.Special interest holidays: With a large, well-stocked fishing lake 400m away from the front door, anglers do not have far to go to indulge their passion! With many more fishing venues in the region, they will be spoilt for choice. Horse riding, tennis and golf are all within reach, and there are many lakes or ‘Plans d’Eau’ in the area offering boating and picnicking facilities. We have bikes and helmets on site, and as the area is reasonably flat, cycling on the quiet roads is a pleasure for all. General informationCoast/beach: Take a daytrip to the beautiful unspoilt beaches on the Atlantic coast near La Rochelle - we recommend La Châtelaillon Plage, just south of La Rochelle centre. Man-made beaches and lakes are closer, at Lambon, about 20 minutes drive from gites, Les Trois Fontaines at Villefagnan at roughly the same distance, and also at the Grande Prairie next to the Nautilis centre at Angoulême. Many other plans d'eau and boating lakes are nearby, such as the Base de Loisirs les Iles de Payre at Payré.Travel: Car essential driving easy. Poitiers airport 35 minutes drive. Melle, 25 mins away, is another bustling town, with more stylish shops and eateries. Being centrally placed within the region, all tourist attractions are within easy reach. Further details: There is a surprising variety of leisure activities given the rural and unspoilt nature of the region. Our favourite day out would be to La Vallée des Singes 20 minutes drive away. For those who prefer an adrenaline rush, try the internationally acclaimed Futuroscope at Poitiers. The Marais Poitevin is an unusual and fascinating place to visit, with it's complex of green canals. There are also many cultural experiences to be had - the Romanesque architecture is all around, and there are many music and art festivals. The Cognac region is within a couple of hours drive, for an interesting day out on the River Charente, not forgetting the obligatory distillery tour. And much, much more......!
